LARGE FIRE TORNADO

“The devastating force of nature”

Rationale
Fire is the mother of light; nature in all its destructive beauty. When a tornado rages across a forest fire, elevating the flames, a special phenomenon can occur: a Fire Tornado or Firenado. After building a successful scale-model of a fire tornado, Kinetic Humor has created a fascinating fire art installation which spectacularly exposes a piece of nature’s architecture: The Large Fire Tornado (LFT).

For the first time, a man-made controlled fire tornado is built, featuring a 15 meter high, rapidly rotating flame with a diameter of 1.5m: the largest artificial fire tornado in the world! It is capable to perform its destructive dance in various weather conditions (wind & rain).

The fire is made with 20 liters of preferably BioFuel for each run. The installation is surrounded with scaffolds featuring transparent heat resistant windshields. This prevents the wind disturbing the tornado and provides safety for the spectators. On the inner side of the scaffolds 36 industrial fans are mounted, six layers of six fans. Once the fans are turned on, a vortex is created above the fire source and the fire starts spinning and shoots up in the air. The tornado runs for approx. 5 minutes. After each sequence a cooling down time of 10 minutes is needed for the fire source to prevent self-combustion. After cooling, the fire source is provide with new fuel and the next sequence starts. The performance is accompanied with a soundscape and RGB light + smoke program that runs for 15 minutes. During the cooling down time, the audience is provided a lightshow, soundscape and additional Fire Ball effect.
